{"id":38860,"date":"2020-10-06T11:34:31","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T04:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/?p=38860"},"modified":"2020-10-06T11:38:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-06T04:38:27","slug":"feb-ui-accounting-students-win-two-awards-at-dash-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/en\/2020\/10\/06\/feb-ui-accounting-students-win-two-awards-at-dash-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"FEB UI Accounting Students Win Two Awards at DASH 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>FEB UI Accounting Students Win Two Awards at DASH 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Nino Eka Putra ~ FEB UI Public Relations Officer<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>DEPOK \u2013 (26\/9\/2020)\u00a0 <\/strong>Students of the Undergraduate Program in Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, Class of 2018, won first and third places in the <em><strong>Accounting\u00a0Paper Competition<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>at Diponegoro Accounting\u2019s Harmony (DASH) 2020 organized online by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro, on Saturday (26\/9\/2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">DASH 2020, which took <em>\u201cThe Role of Accounting in Facing Economic Challenges\u201d<\/em>\u00a0as its theme, had two contests: the <em>Diponegoro Accounting Competition<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>(DAC) and the <em>Accounting<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Paper Competition<\/em>\u00a0(APC). The DAC was a problem-solving olympiad while the APC was a science writing competition. In addition to students from FEB UI, \u00a0students from other universities, such as Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Brawijaya (Unibraw), Universitas Pajajaran (Unpad), Perbanas Institute, Universitas Atma Jaya, and UPN Veteran Jakarta, also took part in the contests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Each contesting team consisted of two active students from the same university. After filling out the registration form, the teams selected one of the three sub-themes offered and submitted an abstract of their sub-theme according to contest rules. Participants were also required to cover all expenses incurred when their abstracts passed review and they advanced to the next stages of the competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The <strong>Masih Belajar (<\/strong><strong>literally meaning Still Learning<\/strong><strong>) Team <\/strong><strong>consisting of<\/strong><strong> Ruth Agustini Sirait\u00a0<\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><strong> Gabrielle Angela Christie from FEB UI <\/strong><strong>won first place in the<\/strong> <em><strong>Accounting\u00a0Paper Competition<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>for their<\/strong> <em>paper\u00a0entitled \u201cSustainability Accounting as A Future Corporate Sustainability Strategy: Proof &amp; Solution\u201d. They were <\/em>\u00a0supervised by their academic adviser, Desi Adhariani, Ph.D.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>The paper<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em> discusses the important role of <em>sustainability accounting<\/em>\u00a0as a corporate sustainability strategy. Today, companies should also consider environmental issues, not just profits. The team sought to prove that <em>sustainability accounting<\/em>\u00a0will have positive internal and external impacts on a company. However, the conventional accounting system has yet to accommodate the sustainability issue. The current frameworks for <em>sustainability reporting, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (<\/em>GRI) and the Environmental, Sustainable and Governance (ESG) standards, still have drawbacks in terms of their implementation and mismatch of concepts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Masih Belajar\u00a0 Team sees that companies still face challenges in following the <em>sustainability reporting<\/em>\u00a0guidelines. To that end, the team proposes the use of <em>artifical intelligence<\/em><em> (<\/em><em>deep learning method<\/em><em>)<\/em>\u00a0to create a <em>sustainability index through the processing of data in sustainability reports<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38696 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20200927-WA0024-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20200927-WA0024-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20200927-WA0024-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20200927-WA0024-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20200927-WA0024.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">According to Ruth Agustini Sirait, \u201cHopefully, the <em>sustainability index<\/em>\u00a0could serve as a guideline for investors to invest, and to encourage companies\u00a0 to score high in the <em>sustainability index<\/em>.\u201d Ruth went on to say that \u201cI\u2019m grateful to God. It was only because of His blessings that we won this competition. However, I hope that going forward, we can make achivements in other places and make our parents and <em>alma mater<\/em> proud. By coincidence, we passed the selection for the <em>International Conference of Sustainability (ICS), which is<\/em>\u00a0jointly organized by FEB UI, the <em>Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners and the National Center for Sustainability Reporting<\/em>. We will present the paper on 4 November 2020. We hope that through this paper we can at least\u00a0 share ideas that can be realized in Indonesia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38698 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_135150-271x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_135150-271x300.jpg 271w, https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_135150.jpg 404w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Gabrielle Angela Christie, added: \u201cI\u2019m thankful the Masih Belajar Team won the competition. True to its name, as a team we are still in the learning and trial phase. The most important thing for us is to complete this series of competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Quaranteam Team <\/strong><strong>that consists of<\/strong><strong> Yohana Olivia\u00a0<\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><strong> Birgitta Aurelia\u00a0<\/strong><strong>won third place in<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <em>Accounting\u00a0Paper Competition<\/em> <strong>for their paper entitled<\/strong> \u201c<em>Hambatan Dibalik Peran\u00a0<\/em><em>Green Accounting<\/em><em>\u00a0dalam Mewujudkan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan<\/em>\u201d (The Challenges of Green Accounting Implementation for Sustainable Development). The team was supervised by their academic adviser, Dr. Chaerul D. Djakman, S.E., Ak., M.B.A.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The title of the <em>paper<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>was based on their findings that many companies in Indonesia are still profit oriented and fail to pay attention to people\u2019s welfare and environmental sustainability. This is indicated by business practices that are not sustainable development-oriented. This is due in part to the fact that the implementation of <em>green accounting<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0particularly in Indonesia, is still not optimal due to three main constraints that make companies reluctant to implement <em>green accounting<\/em>\u00a0to drive sustainable development besides a lack of a sense of urgency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38700 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_134929-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_134929-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200930_134929.jpg 589w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Yohana Olivia said: \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to win the competition. Two months of hard work &#8211; writing the abstract and the paper and giving the presentation &#8211; were not in vain;\u00a0 our hard work bore fruits. Our achievement was also possible because of the support from our academic adviser, who gave us input and direction.
