{"id":39568,"date":"2020-10-24T05:05:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T22:05:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/?p=39568"},"modified":"2020-10-24T05:05:57","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T22:05:57","slug":"ui-rector-at-anus-indonesia-project-conference-indonesias-education-during-covid-19-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/feb.ui.ac.id\/en\/2020\/10\/24\/ui-rector-at-anus-indonesia-project-conference-indonesias-education-during-covid-19-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"UI Rector at ANU\u2019s\u00a0Indonesia Project Conference,\u00a0\u201cIndonesia\u2019s Education during Covid-19 Pandemic\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>UI Rector at ANU\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>Indonesia Project Conference,<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0\u201cIndonesia\u2019s Education during Covid-19 Pandemic\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Nino Eka Putra ~ FEB UI Public Relations Officer<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>DEPOK \u2013 (10\/9\/2020)\u00a0<\/strong> Universitas Indonesia\u2019s Rector Professor Ari Kuncoro gave a <em>welcoming remark<\/em>\u00a0at the Australian National University\u2019s (ANU)\u00a0<em>Indonesia Project Conference webinar entitled \u201cEconomic Dimensions of Covid-19 in Indonesia: Responding to the Crisis\u201d<\/em>\u00a0on Thursday (10\/9\/2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, all education institutions across the world took an immediate decision to prioritize the safety of students, lecturers and staff by switching to online mode of study<em>.<\/em>\u00a0Since 6 April 2020, 170 countries and communities and more than 220 million students have felt the impacts of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">University students, particularly those planning to pursue degrees overseas, have been affected because of campus quarantine, isolation and social distancing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cHigher education institutions in Indonesia, particularly UI, took an immediate measure to respond to Covid-19 by switching classroom and campus activities that draw crowds to online mode<em>.<\/em>\u00a0UI also canceled inauguration ceremonies and judicium days at its campus and holds virtual events instead,\u201d said Ari.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In March 2020, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, in coordination with the Minister of Education and Culture, abolished national exams for elementary, junior and senior high school students. This is a first for Indonesia. The national exams were replaced by an assessment of student performance based on their grades and assignments, among other things.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the same month, the\u00a0Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC) announced that the education reform could be completed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The MOEC issued a regulation through Circular Letter Number 36962\/2020 stipulating that universities where Covid-19 cases are detected should continue their courses <em>online.<\/em>\u00a0A MOEC\u00a0<em>survey<\/em>\u00a0has found that as of April 2020, 94.70% of universities had switched to <em>online mode of course.<\/em>\u00a0The <em>survey<\/em>\u00a0also found that 70% of students are ready for online learning using the Online Learning System (<em>Sistem Pembelajaran\u00a0Daring, SPADA<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The MOEC has also reached an agreement with cellular service providers to allow students to use the Smart Indonesia Card-College (<em>Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah<\/em>) to cover the Internet cost and to allow an extra semester for students facing the risk of <em>dropping out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe Directorate of Higher Education gives universities the freedom to use different <em>platforms for their online learning activities provided they are accessible to students<\/em>. This is a challenge for Indonesia\u2019s education because internet connectivity and technology are the basic requirements,\u201d Ari said in conclusion.
