MM FEB UI\u2019s General Lecture: Decision Making and Problem Solving <\/strong><\/p>\n

DEPOK \u2013 (4\/9\/2020)\u00a0The Master\u2019s Degree Program in Management, <\/strong>FEB UI, held an online general lecture that took \u201cgrow your career\u201d as its theme. The lecture, entitled \u201cDecision Making as a Leader,\u201d\u00a0featured <\/em>Grandhis Helmi Harumansyah, MBA,\u00a0Group Head Commercial Risk<\/em>\u00a01 PT Bank Mandiri (Persero), Tbk, as speaker and was moderated by Melia Retno Astrini, M.Sc., lecturer at the Department of Management, FEB UI, Friday (4\/9\/2020).<\/p>\n

Grandhis said the Covid-19 pandemic that is affecting our lives has global impacts and huge risk potentials and no one knows when it will end. The banking industry has also been significantly affected, as operating costs surge, profit potentials are under pressure, interest income decreases, loan growth slows, non-performing loans<\/em>\u00a0(NPL) and collectability go up, liquidity demand increases.<\/p>\n

All of these are problems<\/em> we must identify to make decisions and come up with solutions, followed by monitoring. In general, problems come in three forms, namely current problems, future problems, and potential problems that can be\u00a0 anticipated.<\/p>\n

Other important factors in defining a problem invlove reframing problems, proposing and challenging asumptions, use of facts, building ideas, putting perspectives into practice, changing problems into positive things and finding solutions.<\/p>\n

Decision making is an integral part of modern, essential, rational and good management. \u201cA leader is expected to play a role in making a decision based on facts, knowledge, experience, analysis, and research,\u201d said Grandhis.<\/p>\n

Grandhis added that basically, to make good decision, we need to focus on important matters, avoid making a decision until we are really ready, seek positive outcome, weigh the negative output, and look to the future (see if your decision is still relevant as time passes, change big decisions into small decisions, avoid getting stuck in just one or two alternatives, make sure you get the right output that suits your need to ensure a sense of security).<\/p>\n

\u201cDecision making is based on problem identification (identifying the apparent problem, finding and analyzing the roots of the problem, identifying the real problem), decision making (identifying the alternative solutions, choosing the best solutions), planning and organization (action plan and implementation),\u201d said Grandhis.
