Department of Accounting Sciences Holds Post-Eid al-Fitr Gathering and Sharing Session: Predicting Post-Pandemic Business Landscape Using Data Analytics<\/strong><\/p>\n

Depok, <\/strong>13\/06\/2020 \u2013 The Department of Accounting Sciences at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, held a post-Eid al-Fitr gathering on Saturday, 13 June 2020. Unlike previous gatherings, this year\u2019s gathering was different because it was held online.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ancella A. Hermawan, MBA., CA., ACMA., CGMA, the head of the Department of Accounting Sciences, opened the gathering\u00a0 with a brief remark. \u201cAlthough we have to forgo the traditional ritual of handshaking, we are determined to strengthen \u00a0our hospitality. We can see that future challenges become more severe. This means we must work together to get the best results. This year\u2019s gathering is highlighted by a sharing session<\/em>\u00a0to widen our knowledge because this year, FEB UI revised its curriculum\u00a0 to adjust to current needs. With tecyhnological development, mastery of data analytics<\/em>\u00a0is crucial, particulary given the uncertain condition brought about by the pandemic. We must survive<\/em>\u00a0and remain number one,\u201d said Ancella.<\/p>\n

The sharing session<\/em>\u00a0featured Sally Taher (founder of Red and White Consulting Partners LLP<\/em>) who gave a presentation entitled Predicting Post-pandemic Business Landscape Using Data and Analytics<\/em>. The session was moderated by Selvy Monalisa, accounting lecturer of FEB UI. Sally shared information about and experience during the pandemic and how skills in analytics, by converting data into insights<\/em>\u00a0that sense can be use in decision making. \u201cWe can\u2019t predict the future but we can definitely prepare our business to face unforeseen challenges<\/em>\u201d, she stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lessons learned from the pandemic, among other things, are firstly, that it is relevant, not just for a pandemic situation but for any circumstances. Secondly, adapt quickly, use the pandemic as a momentum to adapt, as in the quote\/motto above. Actually, those who can survive in this world are not the smartest, but those who can adapt to situations, adapt to new realities in all aspects, adapt products to local dynamic needs. Thirdly is being able to find new solutions and stay connected with clients\/customers.<\/p>\n

All these require the use of analytics or data approach. First, in terms of product diversification, don’t rely on one part of your business for full success. Second, find your best customers. Your old strategy may no longer work and you may have to struggle to get new customers if you don’t adopt new methods. Third, start with risk management. You will not be able to predict problems that may occur in the future but you can certainly take some steps to prepare yourself better,” said Sally.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many things in life we can not control, but there are some things in life that we definitely can control. Take our game to the next level and be someone that other people look forward to seeing,\u201d <\/em>Sally said by way of ending her presentation.<\/p>\n

The session was followed by a discussion, a Q&A session, a prayer led by Eko Wisnu, and was closed by Eid\u2013al-Fitr greetings from the deparment head, professors and representatives from each graduating class. (hjtp)<\/p>\n
