Sustainability Issues and Covid-19<\/strong><\/p>\n

DEPOK – (4\/11\/2020)<\/strong> The Department of Accounting and the Postgraduate Program in Accounting Science (PPIA), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, in collaboration with the National Center for Sustainability Reporting (NCSR) and the Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners (ICSP) held an International Conference on Sustainability 2020 (5th<\/sup> Sustainability Practitioner Conference), with the theme “Sustainability Issues and Covid-19” on Wednesday (4\/11\/2020).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Attended by more than 300 participants from various countries, universities, and companies, both as presenters and as participants, this conference presented Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro, Ph.D., Minister of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, as a Keynote Speaker who brought the topic ‘How Covid-19 Change Our Paradigm on Sustainability’.<\/p>\n

\n

The International Conference on Sustainability 2020 was held virtually. It is an international forum for academics, researchers and students from around the world for sharing research findings on sustainability and to enable future collaboration.<\/p>\n

\n

In her speech, Acting Dean of FEB UI, Dr. Beta Yulianita Gitaharie underlined the importance of this event to emphasize the significant role of academics in increasing attention to the continuation and sustainability of our future. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic is caused by harmful interactions between humans and their environment. Therefore, an effective response is required to observe this pandemic from various dimensions including our surrounding environment.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

A pandemic may reoccur in the future. In this conference, sharing of experiences from various parties are highly anticipated. It is expected that the conference can redefine our approach and efforts to protect and manage the sustainability of the business world without overlooking our future generation.<\/p>\n

For the morning session, there were two speakers, Prof. Martina Linnenluecke<\/strong> from Macquarie University, Australia, who delivered an insight on “Environment Finance: Global Challenges and Opportunities Following the Covid-19 Recovery”, and Assistant Prof. Desi Adhariani, Ph.D.<\/strong>, from FEB UI, who explained about ‘Covid 19 and Sustainability: Time to be More Critical with Our Research’.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the afternoon session, there was Prof. Mathew Tsamanyi, Ph.D.<\/strong>, Professor of Management Practice in Accounting at CEIBS and Executive Director of CEIBS Africa. He shared his view on ‘Accounting and Governance and Sustainable Forest Management’. The afternoon session was closed by Prof. Danture Wickramasinghe, Ph.D.<\/strong>, Adam Smith School of Business, University of Glasgow, UK, who presented ‘Sustainable Development Goals Informing a Form of Governability in Less Developed Countries’.<\/p>\n

According to the Chair of the Conference Committee, Yulianti Abbas, Ph.D., “After going through a double-blind review, there were 44 papers presented at this conference. Papers from various fields of business and management: finance, accounting, banking, public sector, all of which related to sustainability. Presentation is delivered through a zoom meeting. All papers presented will be published in conference proceedings, and selected papers will be published in our supporting journals.”<\/p>\n

At the end of the event, Dr. Ancella A. Hermawan, MBA., CA., ACMA., CGMA., Head of FEB UI Accounting Department, presented the best paper award to Irena Ganesha<\/strong>, a MAKSI FEB UI student, and Dr. Dwi Hartanti<\/strong>, Lecturer at the Department of Accounting, FEB UI, for the paper entitled ‘Achieving Company’s Sustainability by Implementing Stakeholder Salience: a Case Study of Indonesia Pulp and Paper Company.’ (Hjtp)<\/p>\n
