International Students Short Visit to FEB UI

DEPOK – Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Indonesia received a short visit from International Students coming from the University of Tokyo (Japan), Ajou University (South Korea) and China University of Geosciences (China).
Here they learnt about organization and the managerial practice in some companies in Indonesia. They visited four companies such as Mustika Ratu, SMESCO, Wuling Motors, and JD.ID on February 19th-20th 2019.
First, they got chance to see the founder of Mustika Ratu, Mrs. Mooryati Soedibyo in her residence. She shared her stories about herself and family, as well as how she managed to build Mustika Ratu from the very beginning until gave the CEO position to the daughter.
“It’s never too late to start,” she said, “So keep learning, find your interest and go for it.”
Mrs. Mooryati started her business when she was 45 years old. Her children were still in college while her husband would retire soon. Her determination and active spirit finally bring her company, Mustika Ratu as one of successful company in beauty care and cosmetics that using traditional herbs. Hopefully, her leadership and spirit inspire the students.
The next session was visit to Gallery Indonesia WOW (SMESCO). The students explored the crafts of Indonesian Small Medium Enterprises from all the provinces. It was their free time to see the products and buy to their family and friends in their country.
On the next day, the students visited Wuling Motors in Cikarang. Wuling Motors is originally a company established in China but expanded the operation to Indonesia since 2016. The discussion were about the business and human resource management practices in Wuling. Wuling saw Indonesia as a potential market because the promising growth of Indonesian economy. The effective training system and job specialization moreover played a vital role on their success.
The last, they headed to JD.id, which was founded in 2015 in Indonesia, is a branch of JD.com, a Chinese company. One of the most interesting fact about JD.ID is that the majority of the employees are young people with the average around 27 years old. In line with their motto “Make Joy Happen”, the reason behind hiring young employees for JD.ID is to create positive effects such as they can break hierarchy and make free atmospheres to ultimately make a fun and joyful working environment.
By visiting all of the companies, the participants were expected to have a better understanding about multinational company strategies and organizational culture, and how to succeed in Indonesian market. (Des)
