Meet the Editors: Workshop How to Publish Articles in a Reputable Indexed Journal

DEPOK – On Thursday, 5th September – Friday, 6th Septemver 2019, Riset dan PengabdianMasyarakat/Research and Community Engangement (RPM FEB UI) organized a workshop about how to publish articles in a reputable indexed international journal at Prof. Mr. Djokosoetono Meeting Room, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia. The notable presenters were Prof. Evan Lau, Ph.D. (managing director of International Journal of Business and Society) and Prof. Siong Hook Law, Ph.D. (Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Economics and Management). The representatives of FEB UI were attended by Dr. Beta Yulianita Gitaharie, S.E., M.E. (Vice Dean of Education, Research and Student Affairs) and Dr. Dwini Handayani (Manager of RPM FEB UI). There were also some lecturers and students attended the workshop.
The workshop opened with remarks from Dr. Beta Yulianita Gitaharie who explained every university in Indonesia is urged to publish articles since it is regulated by Ministry of Higher Education. Lecturers in the university are expected to not only to teach and educate the society, but also to publish an academic paper. By publishing articles, researcher can develop a new knowledge as well as spread it to the world and wider community. After that, the workshop began with presentation session delivered by Prof. Evan Lau, Ph.D. He told the participants tips to have an article published by a reputable journal step by step. As an editor, he also revealed common mistakes that caused the article to be rejected. One important point from Prof. Evan was when we write a paper, we should write it like a story, so the article will be more interesting.
Then, the presentation continued by Prof. Siong Hook Law, Ph.D., who addressed what must be done after submitting the article. He explained technical steps to response or reply comment from editors upon article submission. The revision part is important because it will give improvement to our paper before the article published. The workshop ended with clinic session, consultation and discussion between audiences and editors.
On the following day, the workshop arranged clinic session individually between participants and the editors. This session discussed writing problems and article submission so the participants got more intensive consultation about how to improve their writing skills.
We all hope that the workshop can increase awareness of indexed journal publication and sharpen the quality of writing. Thus, the articles submitted can be published by a reputable indexed journal and contribute to the world. (Des)
