DEPOK – The banking industry has a strong relationship with economic development. Credit risk, market risk, and operating risk are the main risks faced by banks. Credit risk occurs as a consequence of potential defaulted creditors, falling interest rates and other risks from third parties. Market risk is a consequence of an unstable market, while operational risk occurs from all banking activities. Unity of action and early warning helps to anticipate crises due to possible risks. Therefore, banks need a comprehensive risk management framework to anticipate all risks and promote new value creation.

Insights on Corporate Risk Management in the banking sector were shared by Alfanendya Safudi, FRM, CFA, Head of Credit Portfolio Risk at Bank Mandiri in the Risk Management Course Guest Lecture held by the Department of Accounting at the Student Center, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (7/12/2019).

Guest lectures facilitate the knowledge gained on campus and the real conditions in the industry. “I see this adds knowledge and insight to students. Hopefully what is conveyed can be a kind of bridging to know what the industry is like. Because it might be one of the weaknesses of our education maybe how to bridge between academics and industry,” said Alpha.

Alfanendya also delivered a message for students who are interested in risk management, especially in the banking sector. “Risk management is related to the regulation because there will be a new regulation. But the trend now is data analytics and digital banking. So if you want to risk management, it seems that the two capabilities of data analytics and digital banking can be learned from now.”
