Depok – (16/9/20) To mark its fourth anniversary, the School of Environmental Science, Universitas Indonesia (SIL UI) on Wednesday (16/9/2020) organized a general lecture entitled “Reform of Sustainable Environmental Management: Green Innovation in Sustainable Development”. The lecture was delivered using the Zoom application.
Muhammad Luthfi Zuhdi, M.A., Ph.D., UI Vice Rector, Human Resources and Assets, gave a welcome remark and Prof. Bambang P. S. Brodjonegoro, S.E., M.UP., Ph.D., Minister of Research and Technology/Head of the National Agency for Research and Innovation who is also a professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, delivered the keynote speech.
In his speech, Bambang threw the spotlight on green innovation efforts made by integrating the social, economic and environmental elements through partnership, governance, peace and justice.
Sustainable development should integrate economic and social development with environmental protection. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) emphasize the need for a balance of three aspects, namely economic transformation and inclusive growth, human development, and innovation and energy transfer.
“Innovation should be able to produce outputs that become a priority in an inclusive green economy and can improve people’s welfare, increase economic activities such as exports, strengthen human resources and environmental protection or maintain the quality of our living environment,” said Bambang.
“It’s time for Indonesia to adopt sustainable development principles that maintain the balance of economic, social and environmental aspects. Within this context, the Indonesian Government is committed to becoming a pioneer and leader of sustainable development by initiating the Indonesia Low-Carbon Development path and Green Economy. This will be the core of Indonesia’s development plans today and in the future,” Bambang said. (hjtp)
