Menristek Bambang Brodjonegoro Wins Award from UIUC
DEPOK – (14/10/2020) Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Bambang Brodjonegoro, won the Madhuri and Jagdish N. Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement 2020 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA Union. Bambang said this award was the driving force for innovation in Indonesia.
“This award should be a driving force for the birth of innovations that can become the backbone of Indonesia’s economy in the future to realize Indonesia’s 2045 vision of becoming a high-income country.” The Minister of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Technology said in a written statement, Wednesday (14/10/2020).
Madhuri and Jagdish N. Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement is an award given to UIUC alumni who are considered to have professional achievements in helping their country and the world through contributions to government, humanity, science, art, or human welfare.
Apart from Bambang, this award has been received by a number of influential figures in the world. Some of the figures included Director General of ILRI (International Livestock Research Institute) Jimmy W. Smith from Canada, founder of the Basic Science-Center for NanoMedicine (IBS CNM) Dr. Jinwoo Cheon from South Korea, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Haiti HE Rev. Dr Iva Camille Gloudon.
Bambang Brodjonegoro’s Achievementsm,
Bambang Brodjonegoro is known as a figure with a background in economics and academics. Bambang has also given birth to a number of policy breakthroughs in Indonesia.
During the first term of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Bambang was entrusted to lead the Ministry of Finance (2014-2016). During that period, Bambang initiated a number of important policies, including the tax amnesty program.
Bambang was then entrusted with being the Minister for National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas (2016-2019). A number of Bambang’s policies include the One Data and One-Map Policy program to improve efficiency, accuracy and reliability of national data management.
In addition, Bambang encouraged the role of the private sector or BUMN to reduce dependence on the State Budget and carry the concept of Government Non-Budget Investment Financing. Bambang also designed the concept of the new capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, which is made with the concept of smart, green, and sustainable metropolis.
Currently, Bambang is the Minister of Research and Technology / Head of National Agency for Research and Innovation. Under his leadership, a number of important policies were created, including downstreaming research and import substitution, including those related to Covid-19.
Under his leadership, there have been more than 61 innovations, especially in the field of pharmaceuticals and medical devices that can be solutions for handling pandemics. One of them is the Red-White Vaccine innovation, a domestic COVID-19 vaccine which is currently still under development. (hjtp)
