PPKM Until September 13, Covid-19 Task Force ” Extension Is Not The Right Word”
Jakarta – (7/9/2021) The implementation of the Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) was again extended until September 13, 2021. However, the term extension was deemed inappropriate by Turro Wongkaren, a member of the Covid-19 Task Force expert team in the field of behavior change and the Head of the Demographic Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business University of Indonesia (LD FEB UI).
In an interview with Radio Trijaya, Tuesday (07/09/21), Turro said that a more appropriate word would be the requirement to level down. “What we see is that the requirements from level 4 to level 3 have been met.” Turro said.
The Covid-19 task force for behavior change assesses that in the last few weeks there has been a change in behavior from the community, namely an increase in the application of 3M (wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining distance).
In addition to the data collected, direct observations were made in various areas. “Placing people in various strategic places and then seeing what can be seen directly, is there really a crowd, say 5 people, 10 people, so it’s through observation.” Turro said.
Policies related to PPKM in Java-Bali and outside Java-Bali seem to be uneven, due to the differences in infection and death rates, which were quite high at the beginning of Covid-19. These resulted in the affected areas to tighten their PPKM.
“We have to admit that what is policy will affect people’s behavior and we can see that even though it is not evenly distributed there have been changes in both groups.” Turro explained.
The Peduli Lindungi application and relevant authorities also monitor activities in public spaces, which are considered very helpful in suppressing the Covid-19 numbers, because it makes people aware that the pandemic is not over, and gives a strong signal to continue implementing health protocols.
The case that occurred in a cafe in South Jakarta, was seen as a lack of understanding about the dangers of crowds, but on the other hand there was also indifference.
“Control and monitoring must still be carried out, but we certainly want to treat everyone like adults who do something out of awareness, not because they are being watched and not like elementary or kindergarten children.” Turro stated.
Even though the PPKM is extended and relaxed, society is expected to continue to maintain their faith, be immune and be safe. Faith, which means believing that everything that happens is due to divine intervention. Immune, vaccinating and taking multivitamins and being safe, not only for us but also for those around us by applying 3M, 5M or 10M. “Always go back to the old slogan of the task force. Faith, immunity and safety.” said Turro. (GRA)
