The UKM Center FEB UI in Collaboration with Bank Indonesia Introduces QRIS as a Digital Payment Solution

DEPOK – (27/8/2021) The UKM Center FEB UI supports one of the government’s endeavors to maximize digital payments by holding a workshop with Bank Indonesia. This activity aims to introduce cashless payment schemes to the public. The event was called “SME Surgery, themed; Get acquainted with QRIS, Practical and Hygienic Payments” was held on 27 August 2021 and was attended by 100 MSMEs.

Head of UKM Center FEB UI, T.M. Zakir Syakur Machmud, Ph.D., emphasized that the UKM Center FEB UI is very keen to introduce QRIS to fostered/mentored partners and SMEs in general. He expressed his appreciation to Bank Indonesia for willing to facilitate further with regards to QRIS. After this, he hopes that the collaboration between the government and academia can continue in creating a comfortable business climate for MSMEs.

The same thing as above was conveyed by the faculty leadership. “The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia also ensures that we have a strong commitment to encourage the use of technology in economic activities, as an academic issue. At the same time, we have a community service role, one of which is carried out by the UKM Center FEB UI, in socializing and educating business actors to apply theories and programs that can help them. This QRIS introduction program is a form of that commitment.” said Teguh Dartanto Ph.D., in his remarks as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business UI.

After the remarks, the event began with the introduction of the QRIS payment method. Mr. Ricky Satria, the Deputy Director of the Payment System Policy Department of Bank Indonesia, presented the material for this session. In the QRIS presentation, he emphasized the role of QRIS as a cashless payment method in reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission during the pandemic. This payment will be relatively very easy because it uses the smartphone platform, which in general is always carried around everywhere. Thus this method is expected to make buying and selling transactions more practical, and hygienic.

After the presentation of the material, the event continued with a live testimonial from an SME using QRIS. In this session, the testimony was given by Mr. Yohanes as the owner of Novel Laundry who is also a Foster/Mentored Partner of the UKM Center FEB UI. He conveyed the many benefits for MSMEs. Therefore, he encouraged other MSMEs to also use QRIS.

At the end of the event, the keynote speaker was delivered by Bank Indonesia. During this pandemic, MSMEs must be able to utilize digital technology in developing their business, as stated by the Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Darmayanti. A way of digital readiness is to learn and be ready to continue to adopt the latest technology, one of which is QRIS.

This activity was concluded with several door prizes as well as facilitation for participants who wanted to use QRIS. These participants will later be connected with the desired payment system service provider. Thus, this activity not only provides information, but also encourages MSMEs to immediately use QRIS for their businesses.
