DEPOK – (21/9/2021) The competitiveness of the infrastructure business, especially toll roads, is very high amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This business sector is still very attractive in line with the government’s intensive efforts to encourage infrastructure development.
Toto Pranoto, Observer of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Research Group Management Institute, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (LM FEB UI), in the Evening Up “Movement for the Development of BUMN Toll Road” on Tuesday (21/9), assessed the acceleration of infrastructure projects to improve the regional economy, including the supporting factor for the toll road business, although the progress of its development is still hampered by the limitations of the pandemic.
Toto said, “The toll road construction target has been planned for some time. Until 2024, the government plans to build 4,800 km of toll roads. However, currently only half completed. If the construction is completed according to the target, the increase in the economic sector in the toll road area can be realized quickly.”
Furthermore, he projects that the economic recovery will improve and infrastructure development will resume operations at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021. “Hopefully, all projects will be on track by early 2022.” he said.
Infrastructure companies are also dealing with operations during the pandemic by prioritizing the 6M protocol—wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, reducing mobility, and avoiding eating together—and applying technology for digitization in every project.
