Evita Martha Dewi, the Outstanding Student (MAPRES) of FEB UI

DEPOK – On Thursday, March 15, 2018, a student of 2015 batch of the Department of Economics whose major is International and Monetary Economics, Evita Martha Dewi was selected as the Outstanding Student (Mapres) of the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Indonesia. Hence, Evita is going to represent the Faculty of Economics and Business to compete at the university level with students from other faculties for the university’s Outstanding Student (MAPRES UI).

Evita was selected as Mapres after undergoing a series of rigorous selection which started with the CV selection, paper writing and presentation, English test, GPA and personality test.

This year, the topic for Mapres selection is Sustainable Development Goals which has 17 goals that the countries need to attain by 2030. Evita’s paper takes on ‘Micro Credit Distribution’, where she stated that the distribution of KUR (loans for cooperatives and small and medium businesses) is not yet effective since it is only accessible for middle size business owners and is still not available to small and micro enterprises. In her research, she makes a simulation of integration among micro finance organizations, banks and fintech companies to reduce cost and to make it more efficient and more integrated with small and micro enterprises.

The paper is dedicated to the government and the society who are concerned with small and micro enterprises. The government has the potential but the departments responsible for this issue do not cooperate and each insists to exercise its own authority. In addition, there is a lack of cooperation with the private sectors. The solution offered is still considered to be too grand and too general without considering the various characteristics of society, where most of the micro businesses do not even have a bank account. Because the banks only distribute the credit via KUR, these micro businesses cannot get KUR. The government is expected to have more than one work program to accommodate the various kinds of society in Indonesia.

In preparing herself to compete at the university level, Evita has made some revision to her paper under the supervision of Prof. Mayling Oey-Gardiner, Ph.D. She consulted Pribadi Setiyanto S.E., M.A., (Head of Student Affairs of FEB UI) for her CV, and she practiced to improve her presentation, speaking and writing skills in English.

The criteria and assessment for the Mapres at the university level for this year is the same with the ones held in other faculties. The difference is just that the competition is wider since all faculties and the Vocational Program sent their representatives to this MAPRES selection.

At the awarding night for the University’s Outstanding Student (Mapres UI) on April 6, 2018, Evita Martha Dewi won the second place (runner up) of Mapres UI. She also won two other prizes, Best CV and Best in Social and Humanity Studies. (Nino Eka Putra).
