JAKARTA – The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) claims to need figures who can manage the company well, especially BUMN companies engaged in the energy sector. BUMN Minister, Erick Thohir confirmed that the performance of BUMN companies which are currently being focused by the government is in the energy sector.

Former Governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok became one of the candidates who would fill a leadership position in one of the state-owned companies in the energy sector. However, is it right for Ahok to be placed by the government to answer the challenges of BUMN in the energy sector?

President Jokowi also confirmed this. According to him, all parties were aware of Ahok’s performance. He also said that the selection process for BUMN leaders is still ongoing. The results of this selection will be submitted entirely to the Ministry of SOEs.

The challenges of the Indonesian energy sector are enormous. For example, Pertamina and PLN. For Pertamina, the case is how the ability as a BUMN can achieve the target of lifting 900 barrels per D. “I see that there is no Pertamina’s ability to do the target for many reasons / multi-aspect internally, financially, and technologically. On the other hand, PLN also faces obstacles such as how to quickly reach 35,000 megawatt strategies and also needs to improve the performance of public services (PSO),” said Toto Pranoto as Head of the FEB UI Management Institute and as a guest speaker in Sapa Indonesia Malam on Kompas TV, ‘Reformasi BUMN, Need Ahok? ‘, On Sunday (11/17/2019).

This is complicated and needs a breakthrough to be fixed immediately. Then it takes a leader who is suitable and fit to deal with the problems that exist in the BUMN energy sector. In addition, SOE leaders will have to understand business nature.

“Ahok or whoever is the leader of the BUMN that handles the energy sector must be able to bring changes and breakthroughs in innovative new policies to advance the BUMN. So, people do not need to see from one side or a person’s background. However, we must look at the other side of the advantages as a leader,” he concluded. (Des)
