Ari Kuncoro: UI Must Innovate for a Leadership Based Education Curriculum

Nino Eka Putra ~ Humas FEB UI

JAKARTA – Indonesia as a developing country needs universities that are able to become one of the development agents and make a concept to be used in the wider community. If we look at the management of higher education management abroad, they are not too regulated and in terms of research, they are very good because there is no convoluted bureaucracy to hamper research funding.

In terms of education, the Indonesian tertiary curriculum seems to only provide a grid and a lack of discussion or debate between people in classroom learning so that it only moves in one direction in the knowledge base that has only been memorized and will forget at any time. This is very different from education in developed country universities which focuses on joint experiences between students.

At present, students are required to have analytical thinking and observe from digital to find solutions / policies that are relevant in adapting to the digital age. Meanwhile, high school students who take the National Examination (UN) as a condition of graduation and will continue to college, should not be eliminated but made to be able to practice analytical skills. Bearing in mind, HR must now be able to adapt & compete globally not just on a national scale.

“HR can move forward when thinking out of the box is suitable to be a leader. So, schools or universities not only provide teaching but also assign assignments per group with various case studies to train teamwork and teamwork about leadership, coordination, collaboration, persuasion, and negotiation,” said Ari Kuncoro as the Chancellor of the UI in the show Our Figures , titled “Education Based Leadership” at JAK TV, on Saturday (12/28/2019).

Ari added that one of the innovations that will be applied in UI management is cooperation with the government and the private sector in the form of endowment professorship programs, where the private sector is involved in providing CSR funds to provide salary & research costs. In addition, UI will also raise rankings at the Asian and International level by holding public lectures, guest lecturers, seminars, conferences, training, capacity building. So that the reputation is created to be known by the wider community, other universities, and industry.

Meanwhile, to support student ethics / morals and culture, UI teaches citizenship and religious subjects to give messages in minimizing the symptoms of intolerance caused by lack of face-to-face communication.

“Faculties at UI are expected to be able to market their excellence to prospective partners abroad. Therefore, UI students or the younger generation try to hone their talents / abilities and other fields beyond talent as a support. In addition, it forms the ability of narrative to retell in public so that you deserve to be a leader,” Ari Kuncoro’s inspirational message concluded at the closing ceremony. (Des)
