Depok – Unlike in the past, FEB UI held this year’s traditional Eid al-Fitr gathering via the Zoom application (19/06/2020). Despite the absence of face-to-face  encounter, the online gathering was able to maintain the spirit of hospitality and togetherness.

UI Rector Prof. Ari Kuncoro, Ph.D. took time out of his busy schedule to open the gathering. In his remarks, he said, “Happy Eid al-Fitr, forgive me for my wrongdoings in the past, even though it is too late. In times of pandemic, a lot of things have changed, with things now done online. However, in our case, we turn this into a rare moment for innovations. Later, we can see the results when the pandemic subsides. And this is also an opportunity for the university and faculties to apply the triple helix model. Therefore, we don’t just teach and publish; there is institutional income. Therefore, don’t just take into account the relevance or academic value; we take this opportunity because FEB UI has enough experience, with its institutions providing advice and conducting studies for decision making purposes. Once again, forgive me for my wrongdoings in the past,” said Prof. Ari.

Dr. Beta, acting dean of FEB UI, delivered her remarks and a report on six months working as acting dean. She thanked the participants for joining the event and wished them a Happy Eid al-Fitr, 1 Shawwal 1441 H. She also  asked for forgiveness for her past wrongdoings. In her remarks, she underlined FEB UI’s response to global challenges and what has been done to address those challenges, especially in times of pandemic. To respond to global challenges, an institution must prioritize governance, transparency and accountability. These should be reflected in and for the achievement of global ranking and accreditation, both nationally and internationally. In addition, FEB UI as an institution must continue to make improvements and reform in all areas.

In her report, Dr. Beta said that current academic activities, such as teaching and learning activities, exams, mid-term exams, end of semester exams, and graduation ceremonies, are still being conducted online. FEB also brings to public exposure economic and business issues in collaboration with three fields of studies at the university. FEB UI delivered a policy brief to find a balance between safety, health and economy. The faculty also organizes knowledge sharing sessions on various topics in the “Afternoon Talk” webinar series in collaboration with the Special Work Unit (UKK) and FEB UI alumni. The series also has a social goal of providing internet data plans for disadvantaged students through donations from participants of the seminars. A number of lecturers also publish journals and scientific articles in Scopus Q1. UI rector and several lecturers periodically relay messages and opinions in newspapers. Departments at FEB UI also prepare online scientific discussion forums. FEB UI deployed modeling expert team, economic expert team, and health economics team to assists the Covid-19 task force. FEB UI conducted a Covid-19 prevention behavior survey in collaboration with UKM UI. FEB UI was also asked to give input on the education sector, from early childhood education to tertiary education. In addition, FEB UI received a competitive grant, namely an international accreditation facilitation grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture as part of the AACSB accreditation process.

Religious teacher (ustaz) Abdi Kurnia Djohan, S.H., M.H. (deputy chairman of the UI Mosque) said in his sermon, “Eid means returning to fitrah –the purest human state- and its relevance is explained in a hadith of the Prophet, ‘A person who observes fasting seriously celebrates the holiday like he was just leaving his mother’s womb.’ This is relevance with the new paradigm announced by the government, whose value we understand, namely paying attention to those that have a direct connection, simple things, paying attention to cleanliness, and the relationship between faith and cleanliness. Cleanliness is part of faith, so try your best to behave virtuously. That’s where cleanliness becomes relevant with pure behavior. Cultivate this simple thing. Hopefully, we will not forget this, to live a clean life. The new normal encourages us to behave virtuously and also to have a clean heart, because it is impossible for a clean behavior to emerge from an impure heart. Paying attention to cleanliness, upholding the values of togetherness, having a positive attitude to everything, God willing, we will become people with pure hearts and whose Ramadan worship pleases God and is recited in the Mina Aidin Wal Faizin prayer,” said Ustaz Abdi said.

The event was closed with a prayer led by Ustaz Abdul Subur, S.E., the head of FEB UI Student Activities and Welfare Section, followed by greetings from FEB UI professors, members of the academic senate, leaders, lecturers, employees, students and alumni, and a group photo online.
