LDUI: Online Ojek Applicator Assistance for Partners to Promote the Micro Economy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – (10/8/2021) Deputy Head of the Demographic Institute (LD), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), Paksi C.K. Walandouw said that assistance from online motorcycle taxi applicators for his partners could encourage the movement of the micro economy in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He gave an example of the direct financial assistance provided by the online motorcycle taxi applicator, Gojek, through GoPay transfers to the accounts of its driver partners, which can be used directly to buy daily necessities at the microeconomic level.

“The donation was very beneficial and it was not in the form of special aid, like rice or anything. But this assistance will provide options for driver-partners and their families to meet needs that are truly a priority at this time. With the growing digital ecosystem connected to GoPay, merchants who receive payments with GoPay will indirectly be affected by the distribution of assistance.” said Paksi in his statement, Tuesday.

Furthermore, economic conditions in the midst of Restrictions on the Enforcement of Community Activities (PPKM) make it quite difficult for people from the middle to lower economic class due to the limited mobility of the community.

PPKM also contributed to the reduction in the number of orders received by online motorcycle taxi drivers, even though online motorcycle taxi drivers were still allowed to work in these restricted conditions.

“In 2019, people’s mobility is the main source of income for driver partners who serve passenger delivery such as GoRide. Even though there is an increase in orders for delivery of goods, it does not necessarily cover the lost income of drivers from the decrease in passenger delivery orders,” he said.

Therefore, Paksi supports donations in the form of direct funds by utilizing digital financial services that can be imitated by application providers who have partners from the middle to lower economic circles so that the assistance can be effective and immediately ease the burden on the applicator partners.

Last week, Gojek distributed food shopping assistance worth a total of Rp 25 billion in cashless or non-cash form, directly to the accounts of hundreds of thousands of driver partners throughout Indonesia. In this case, Gojek has shown its commitment to consistently help driver partners that has been established since the beginning of the pandemic in Indonesia.

Through the Driver Partner Welfare Program, the assistance distributed by Gojek focuses on three things, namely the provision of health services and equipment, relief of daily expenses, and income assistance. These three initiatives have been implemented through the Partner Assistance Fund worth IDR 100 billion, which comes from donations of 25 percent of the annual salary of senior management and the annual salary increase budget for all employees.

The Driver Partner Welfare Program during the COVID-19 pandemic has become an ongoing commitment supported by various initiatives ranging from the provision of health equipment that supports partner operations during the pandemic, health insurance coverage, basic food assistance programs, economical and healthy food packages for driver partners and families, as well as income assistance for driver partners who were exposed to COVID-19 and were forced to temporarily stop working.

Gojek’s efforts are in line with the #BangkitBersama movement initiated by the GoTo Group. Through this movement, services in the GoTo ecosystem are here to help the community, including MSMEs and informal sector workers, to be able to bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic, while helping accelerate local economic growth.
