LD FEB UI Survey, INFID and Kurawal Foundation: The Importance of Increasing Health Insurance through Improving Health Services in the Pandemic
DEPOK – (13/8/2021) The International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID) supported by the Kurawal Foundation and in collaboration with the Demographic Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UniversitasIndonesia (LD FEB UI) released the results of a public survey, titled “Access and Health Services in 6 Cities and Regencies in the Era of the COVID-19 Pandemic (Semarang, Padang, Malang, Surabaya, Makassar, and Tangerang Regency)” online, on Friday (13/8/2021).
Alfindra Primaldhi, Adjunct Researcher from LD FEB UI presented a number of negative and positive findings from this survey. Some of the negative findings referred to are, first, the majority of respondents received information on health services not through official government sources (>60%). Second, the majority of information on health services for women is not widely known by the public, the highest number being in Surabaya (64%). Third, most people do not make complaints about poor health services. The main reasons are because they feel it’s useless, do not know the procedure, and are afraid of being questioned unduly. Fourth, the majority of residents want BPJS Health’s standard one-class inpatient services to follow the first-class standard, which are two beds per inpatient room. Meanwhile, the government’s plan for participants who receive contribution assistance (PBI) will contain a maximum of six beds. Fifth, the majority of residents have never tested for COVID-19, because they feel they have no symptoms. The high cost of testing is suspected to be a factor in the low interest in testing in the community.
Meanwhile, the positive findings from this survey are: first, people have good health awareness, 7 out of 10 respondents have BPJS Health. Second, the survey shows that people have awareness to anticipate health costs. The majority of respondents plan to prepare or willingly fund for health in the amount of Rp. 279,000-Rp. 1,700,000 and the average available funds or ability currently ranges from Rp. 245,000-Rp 860,000. Third, the majority of people have had a good experience in using health facilities, health services, and BPJS Health.
