Dean of FEB UI Speaks at AACSB Asia Pacific Annual Accreditation Conference

DEPOK – (8-19/6/2022) The Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) regularly organizes annual accreditation conferences for the Asia Pacific region (Annual Accreditation Conference Asia Pacific or AACAP). The meeting at Singapore Management University (SMU) on June 8-19, 2022, was special because it was the first Asia Pacific conference to be held offline after the Covid-19 pandemic. No wonder 15 countries attended the conference, the most in the history of post-pandemic events.

AACAP is a meeting, sharing, and networking event for AACSB members, both those who have been accredited, newly accredited and in the accreditation process. Not only with members, but conference participants also had the opportunity to discuss and network with critical policy-making figures at AACSB.

Stephanie M. Bryant, Executive Vice President and Chief Accreditation Officer was at the conference. Geoff Perry EVP, Chief Officer Asia Pacific. Amy Memon, Regional Head and liaison officer FEB UI, and Liyan Chen, Senior Manager, Accreditation and Member Services. Two of the three FEB UI Peer Review Team (PRT) were also present: Professor Michael Ewing, who also spoke at one of the sessions, and Professor Viput Ongsakul as a participant. One PRT member, Prof. Kangjuan Lyu from Shanghai University, could not attend due to the COVID situation in China.

The main session of this year’s conference focused on a 2-year review of the implementation of the new AACSB 2020 standard presented by Stephanie M. Bryant and Geoff Perry, as well as sharing from various Asia Pacific business school leaders with various themes, from benchmarking to various learning innovations during the pandemic.

FEB UI Dean Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D., was honored to be one of the invited speakers at this conference. Although still in the final accreditation process, Teguh was asked to share experiences and lessons from FEB UI’s transformation by benchmarking against AACSB standards and accredited institutions. Teguh shared the stage with Amir Mahmood, Dean of Western Sydney University, Australia, which is already AACSB accredited.

In his presentation, Teguh conveyed the importance of benchmarking practices in transforming FEB UI into a business school that leads nationally and is recognized globally. “Organizational transformation is a crucial step for FEB UI to move from the best business school in Indonesia to an international reputation. The AACSB accreditation process allows FEB UI to benchmark against 15 comprehensive AACSB standards and the AACSB international network to achieve the vision and mission of FEB UI,” Teguh said.

Benchmarking is carried out in every AACSB accreditation process, starting from eligibility until the arrival of the PRT in September 2022. “Although we have been a member of AACSB since 2007, FEB UI’s eligibility was only obtained in 2015. For seven years after that, FEB UI continued to make continuous improvements, from when I was the head of the study program, the head of the department, the vice dean, the acting dean, to now the dean. I only hope that next year I will be present at this annual conference not as a speaker but as a newly accredited school,” Teguh said to the applause of the participants.

The conference was also used as a moment to approach and agree on the details of PRT’s planned visit to FEB UI on September 4-7, 2022. The Dean and FEB UI Delegation consists of Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D. Vice Dean I for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Dr. Dyah Setyaningrum, Head of Dean Office, Strategic Planning, Evaluation, and Monitoring – International Ranking or DOSPEM-IR, Yeshika Alversia, MBA. Head of AACSB International Accreditation Committee, and Wahyu Jatmiko, Ph.D. Member of AACSB International Accreditation Committee met directly with Professor Michael Ewing and Professor Viput Ongsakul. The meeting also agreed on a Pre-Visit that Professor Viput would conduct on August 1-3, 2022, to the FEB UI campus in Salemba and Depok.
