FEB UI 2018 S-1 Accounting Student Wins Gold Medal at the Papua PON XX Event

DEPOK – (15/10/2021) Akmal Mizan Datama Bakri, a student of the Parallel Accounting S-1 Study Program, Class of 2018 Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), received a Gold Medal (1st Place) in Baseball at the National Sports Week (PON) XX Papua, which took place from October 2 to October 15, 2021. Akmal is a baseball athlete representing the DKI Jakarta Province.
The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) organizes PON as the largest four-year national sports event that was first held in 1969. It is now in its 20th implementation. PON XX 2021 was held in Papua for 37 sports competitions, 56 sports disciplines, and 679 matches, and was officially opened on Saturday (2/10) by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Sentani, Jayapura, Papua.
PON XX Papua activities are divided into four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency. As an event that sees 6,442 athletes competing from all over Indonesia, starting from October 2 to 15, 2021, President Joko Widodo said he was proud that PON was held for the first time in Papua. The President, who was accompanied by several Ministers, invited all elements of society to experience PON with all joy and become a place to forge togetherness with one another.
Akmal Mizan Datama Bakri, as part of the baseball team that suceeded in getting the Gold Medal (1st Place) at PON XX Papua, previously had to first take part in the 2019 Pre-PON qualification stages. Of course, assisted by a coaching team consisting of Berto, Michael, Farid, Reza, and the official team, namely Zen and Zaki, and Heri as Manager.
Akmal told that he participated in PON XX Papua to develop his passion and talents in Baseball and wanted to achieve at the national level. Teamwork, mutual support, focus, not underestimating the opponent, and praying to God are strong assets in this competition. “I am very happy to be able to present the Gold Medal to DKI Jakarta after a long and challenging process that has finally paid off. The real challenge was in adapting to field conditions and having to be mentally strong to face the other competing teams.” Added Akmal.
“I would like to thank my family, coaches, officials, managers, and teammates who provided support, prayers, and contributions during this journey. In the future, the commitment to regular training for the next match is to be able to compete in other competitions and achieve more, both nationally and internationally.” explained Akmal at the end of the interview via Whatsapp. (ts)
