Adhi Setyo Santoso Studied Eventual Logic in Open Innovation in Multi-Sided Platform in Indonesia

DEPOK – Postgraduate Management Program in the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia held an open session of Doctoral Promotion Adhi Setyo Santoso (1506771104) which took place at the Auditorium of the Postgraduate Building, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Depok Campus, on Tuesday (12/17/2019).
The Doctoral Promotion Session was chaired by Prof. Susiyati B. Hirawan, Ph.D., with her supervisor, Ruslan Prijadi, Ph.D. (Promoter), Dr. T. Ezni Balqiah (Co-Promoter). As the testing team, Prof. Dr. Irwan Adi Eka Putra (Chief Examiner), Avanti Fontana, Ph.D., Dr. Lily Sudhartio, RR. Ratih Dyah Kusumastuti, Ph.D., and Sari Wahyuni, Ph.D.
The dissertation was titled “The Role of Effectual Logic in Open Innovation: An Empirical Study in Indonesian Multi-Sided Platform Firms”. There is a paradox in open platform-based innovation where digital Multi-Sided Platform (MSP) startups with low initial creative capacity can implement open innovation strategies that generally require a high level of shared creation capability.
This study addresses this gap by theoretically developing a relationship between effective logical entrepreneurial actions dealing with a set of means as given and focusing on the selection of effects that might be made with a set of means and open innovation processes with the creation of a shared capacity as a prerequisite for contributing on the growth of the new Multi-Sided Platform (MSP) digital.
In this case, this research examines the platform-based open innovation process under the constraints of resources, limited knowledge, and uncertainty. Quantitative research findings from 70 digital MSP startups show the shortest path for digital MSP startups to produce Innovation Performance starting from developing Effective Logic, then Integrative Capabilities and Co-Creation Capacity, and Innovation Performance afterward.
However, in this shortest path, Crowds or Community Management Practices also have a role in mediating some of the relationships between Effective Logic and Integrative Capability. Platform-based innovation becomes the point of integrating the theory of effects from entrepreneurial research and open innovation strategies from strategic management research. Bridges for these two fields show implications for platform-based innovation research in strategic entrepreneurship.

In writing his dissertation, limited data is a challenge. “The technical challenge is about data. Because this is a new industry, it is rather difficult to gather hundreds of people who are ready to fill, so maybe even if hundreds have not entered the category of open innovation and carry out complete effectuation. Indeed, this is playing small data.”
The obligation to make publications is one of the requirements for graduation. Adi conveyed the strategy in journal writing and publication became one of the strategies. “As for myself, for journals, I am safe to use the time gap at least, stuck it for 8 months, to arrive at accept.
