JAKARTA – Based on the release of news published in online media, Kumparan.com, News channel, edition (3/2/2020) that Indonesian Vice-President Ma’ruf Amin received the Chancellor of the University of Indonesia, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, on Monday (2/3/2020). The meeting, which was held at the Vice President’s office, discussed the implementation of the concept of self-sufficient economy in the village. After meeting for about 2 hours, Ari explained the concept of self-sufficient economy discussed with Ma’ruf.

“Therefore, rural areas need to be empowered, one of the things we do is we use an approach called self sufficient economy, which means that there is an adequate life but not to overdo it and respect the environment,” Ari Kuncoro said.

Ari continued, this concept is important to be emphasized in the village community so that in the future they can live according to their identity and are not much influenced by culture and urban life. With this mindset, it is expected that the role of the village as an urban buffer can run optimally, especially in the economic field.

“What we emphasize here is that life in the village with adequate clothing and food and also the philosophy of moderation, then not exaggerating. Moderation and independence, and another is fairness, it makes those in the village see us as a companion of the urban , “he said.

In addition, Ma’ruf and Ari also discussed the matter of sustainable development or the concept of sustainable development. “This effort can be done by the government for example by encouraging villagers to implement government programs in a sustainable manner. So we are doing development but not damaging, so the important thing is sustainability,” explained Ari.

“Now there are concepts such as financial attention. So starting from KUR, micro waqf banks, so there are some of them who at least can graduate or graduate and can be funded by Islamic banks,” he explained.

To apply these two concepts, Ari assessed that the Ministry of Villages and Disadvantaged Regions could be collaborated with. In addition, he stressed that village development must also be in harmony with the environment. Not only that, the concept of self sufficient economy also means material and spiritual balance.

“Life does not need to work, the important thing is happiness, the balance between material and spiritual and respect for our environment. So, this is a concept by the United Nations that is diverting from merely GDP growth of all kinds towards happiness towards happiness,” he concluded. (Des)
