Universitas Indonesia and Universiti Malaya Hold Joint Accounting Research Symposium

Depok – (23-24/09/20)  The Department of Accounting Sciences and the Master’s Degree Program in Accounting Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (PPIA FEB UI), in collaboration with Universiti Malaya (UM), held a Joint Accounting Research Symposium on 23-24 September 2020. The online symposium was attended by lecturers and students from the two universities.

Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D., Vice Dean I FEB UI, said in his opening speech that the symposium was the first Joint Accounting Research Symposium organized by UI and UM. The symposium aimed at strengthening cooperation between UI and UM, particularly in the area of research. Through the symposium, lecturers and students from UI and UM shared and discussed research results and explored the prospects for collaborative research in the future.

The symposium devoted itself to two types of activity, namely general lectures presented by the faculties of Universiti Malaya and paper presentations by master’s degree students from UI and UM. During the paper presentation session, UI and UM lecturers served as discussants who  gave input and moderated the Q&A session.

Dr. Mohd Zulkhairi Mustapha, the keynote  speaker, discussed the fast changes in the business world and the strategy for survival. He also explained how those changes affected research activity, particularly in accounting, opening up new possibilities for new research, as well as the methods and technology applied in research activity.

Associate Professor Dr. Noor Ismawati Jaafar gave a general lecture on Wednesday (23/9/20), focusing on the development in accounting information survey and future research potentials. Two UI doctoral degree students and two UM doctoral degree students presented their papers on Wednesday, with Dr Mohd Zulkhairi Mustapha (UM), Dr. Noor Ismawati Jaafar (UM), Dr Yulianti Abbas (UI), and Dr Sylvia Veronica (UM) as discussants and moderators.

Associate Professor Datin Dr Izlin Ismail gave a general lecture on Thursday, focusing  on the development of research in finance. Three UI doctoral degree students and four UM doctoral degree students presented their papers, with Dr Mohd Zulkhairi Mustapha (UM), Dr Izlin Ismail (UM), Dr Desi Adhariani (UI), Dr Ratna Wardhani (UI), Dr Hilda Rossietta (UI), and Dr Dodik Siswantoro (UI) as discussants and moderators.

Going forward, UI and UM  expect to hold similar symposiums in the future by involving other departments at FEB UI, strengthening relations between UI and UM, and opening an opportunity for future collaboration between students and lecturers of the two universities. (hjtp)
